Krystal is a wild wombyn born and raised in Saskatchewan’s wide open countryside in the epitome of the Canadian prairies. Like most teenage girls, she spent her adolescent years yearning to hang out with friends in the city – but in hindsight she values the freedom growing up on a farm in rural Saskatchewan gave her, instilling a sense of liberty that would inspire the rest of her life.
An artist at heart, Krystal studied esthetics at Marca College in 2003 and fast fell in love with the trade. She went on to win an ‘Outstanding Achievement’ award at her college graduation and finished the program at the top of her class. Shortly afterwards Krystal started working at one of Saskatoon’s most prestigious spas, Paramount Day Spa, where she met several colleagues who would go onto teach the ambitious new grad all the tricks of the trade. On the brink of her 20th birthday, Krystal felt an undeniable energy growing inside. While living in Martensville, a small Saskatoon suburb, Krystal decided to take a chance and open her own spa in 2005, Precious Touch Day Spa. It was a big learning curve for the entrepreneur-in-the-making but before she knew it, she was fully booked, all the time, and had more work than she could have ever imagined. Krystal owned and operated Precious Touch Day Spa for seven years before packing up and moving to beautiful Vancouver Island, a place that’s always held a special space in her heart for obvious reasons. I mean, seriously, have you seen the West Coast? And, just like that, Krystal and her husband, Jeff, and their 2 dogs packed their life up and set out to plant new roots in new places.
Krystal settled in Nanoose Bay and started working at nearby Pacific Shore’s Aquaterre Spa. She enjoyed her time being an employee at the resort. At 29, Krystal got pregnant – something that would redefine the rest of her life and career. Rock-a-Bear Baby Swag and Spa is affectionately named after her first-born baby boy, Rocky-Bear.
When she isn’t finding trendy, ethical, Canadian brands to support at the shop, threading eyebrows for her clients, giving someone a life changing facial, being a caring mother, or loving wife – you can most likely find Krystal hiking the backcountry trails of Vancouver Island, swimming in the ocean or nearby lakes, hanging out around a campfire, or taking a seriously relaxing bath (with one of her favourite local bath products). Krystal loves her spa, her clients, and her family more than anything. She’s happy to be on Vancouver Island and feels like it’s the first place she’s honestly been at peace.
